About Pilates

Today’s world offers hundreds of new ways to exercise; some prove to be extremely effective and safe, while others are to be discerned. The beauty of Pilates is that any BODY can participate. Because Pilates is taught in a private or small group setting, each participant is carefully watched and coached through each exercise by a certified instructor. Furthermore, Pilates involves very little impact to the joints and muscles. Virtually any BODY can do Pilates!

Through the strengthening of core muscles, participants are able to create stronger and healthier bodies. When one is able to strengthen the entire group of abdominal muscles, the spine is not required to rely solely on the skeletal system for support; in addition, the muscles and connective tissues may assist. As a result, the spine may be strengthened and lengthened, allowing for more space between each vertebra and thus, the ability to withstand the shock absorption required for everyday life and higher impact activities.

Another important function of Pilates is that of introducing increased flexibility while strengthening the body. Pilates exercise elongates and strengthens the body, allowing for increased muscle elasticity and joint mobility. A body with balanced strength and flexibility is less likely to be injured than a body with tight, bulky musculature. Pilates is not merely a passing exercise phenomenon; it is a safe, effective, and sensible form of exercise that may be practiced by all ages and all fitness levels.

Pilates develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.
